Dead But Dreaming
Newsletter #14 - December 2002
Greetings to all you Dead But Dreaming fans! It's time for a long overdue update from the
band, and there are many new changes and interesting developments to report!
First of all, belated thanks to all the loyal fans who made it out to DBD's last two
shows, being The Manette Saloon on Saturday, April 13th and I-Spy on Sunday, April 28th as
part of the HumbleRocks CD Sampler release party. Both these shows were packed out, with
Dead But Dreaming putting on stellar performances to enthusiastic crowds. The I-Spy show
featured the band's last gig with guitarist Devin Hall, whom the band was sad to see
leave.
After taking a break to regroup, DBD began the tough task of finding a new guitarist.
After interviewing and auditioning a number of candidates, the band found the right fit
with Brett Shanley. Drawing on his experiences and travels, Brett brings true-life joy
along with a touch of the melancholy to the music he plays. A dedicated musician, Brett
has been playing guitar steadily for the last 9 years and lends great skill and unique
feel to the band's songs - as well as inspired writing to new material! The band would
love for everyone to come out to the next show to welcome Brett to the band!
Speaking of which, Dead But Dreaming will be hitting the stage next Friday, December 20th,
at the Narrows Theater in Tacoma! This show is a special ALL AGES benefit by XiL Records
benefiting St. Leo's food bank, so bring a can of food and only pay $5 admission (full
price is $6). This promises to be a great show, with DBD sharing the stage with such bands
as 11th Hour, Real Life Trauma, and Smokey Swade. Show starts at 7pm, with Dead But
Dreaming hitting the stage around 8:30 (but as always, get there early). The Narrows
Theater is located at 7116 6th Avenue in Tacoma. So come on out, support a great cause,
and welcome Brett to the band in style! Directions to the Narrows Theater are...
> From I-5, take the "Highway 16/Bremerton" exit #132 in Tacoma. Continue on Highway 16 past
Cheney Stadium, and take the "Sixth Avenue" exit. At the end of the exit, go LEFT onto
Sixth Avenue. Go through 4 lights (the first of which is Pearl Street) and you'll see the
Narrows Theater on the left just after the fourth light (a large, gray building).
> From Highway 16 Eastbound towards Tacoma, cross the Narrows Bridge and take the "Jackson
Ave" exit. At the end of the exit, go RIGHT onto Jackson Ave. At the next light (Sixth
Avenue), go LEFT and you'll see the Narrows Theater on the right just about two blocks
later.
With the change in band personnel, new band photos are in order... look for new individual
and group shots on the website in the coming weeks, as well as new bio information for
both Brett and the band. Currently up is a preview of the new full-color cover art for the
band's new EP "Mockingbird," set for release in just a few more short weeks! The cover art
is based on drawings and concepts from the band members and executed in suitably ethereal
style by Aaron Sixkiller. Check out the sound samples from the EP while you are there!
Speaking of CDs, the band is now appearing on HumbleRocks Autumn Sampler
(www.humblerocks.com) with the song "Beautiful Delusion," from the upcoming EP
"Mockingbird." The previous sampler was a smash success, so the band has high expectations
from this great new release also. Available in stores now! Additionally, Dead But Dreaming
will be appearing on a new sampler by XiL Records (www.xilrecords.com) for sale
exclusively at Silver Platters. The band chose "27," one of its most popular songs, for
this release. Stay tuned for a release date on this exciting CD! The band has a number of
shows in work to coincide with these exciting developments, returning to a few familiar
venues and branching out to some new ones. There is even rumor of doing a few shows on the
XiL Records Tour this spring...
Lastly, the band had to move out of its practice space of the last 3 years, as Naf Studios
closed it's doors to bands at the beginning of September. DBD has since secured practice
space with Garage Studios (www.thegaragestudios.com), and is very happy with the decision.
That's it for now from Dead But Dreaming! Keep an eye out for the next show announcements
coming soon!
